Head Of Security

Head of Security (2292BR) Gloucester, England

Nuclear Generation operates eight nuclear power stations in the UK with a combined capacity of almost 9,000 megawatts - electricity that is vital to the UK economy. Safety is our number one priority, and we pride ourselves in operating our fleet safely and reliably. In a typical year, our nuclear power stations avoid the emission of over 30 million tones of CO2. That’s equivalent of removing over half of the
passenger cars from the UK’s roads. In this Specialist role, you’ll drive security performance and culture into mainstream business activity that will extend to every area of EDF Energy. A culture that will drive our integrity and secure our bright future from the ground up.

About the role
At EDF Energy safety is our number one priority together with championing a strong security culture right across the business, you’ll make sure it stays that way. Beyond that, we’ll look to you for outstanding skills and experience in order to make an immediate impact on the bottom line, as well as delivering key benefits to the security strategy. Leadership and management of the Corporate Security team is essential to ensure that the team is fully engaged to deliver first rate security support, advice and assistance across the Nuclear Generation business. Ensuring that all relevant areas of the business are security legally compliant as required by relevant government regulations (NISR, SIA etc) is also key to this role.

About you
To rise to the challenge, you’ll need to demonstrate significant commercial and security experience as well as strong ‘command and control’ behaviours when required. An essential ingredient is awareness of the importance of the commercial environment of Nuclear Generation and the ability to make sound and realistic judgments to balance security requirements, advice and decisions against the business need. But just as important are the personal traits you bring to the role. Innovative and self motivated, you’ll take a highly ethical approach to everything you do. And drawing on your natural communication and leadership skills, you’ll act as role model for all matters regarding security strategy. You will have exceptional interpersonal and negotiating skills leading the development of positive and professional culture amongst peers, subordinates and managers at all levels. You will have relevant degree or relevant professional qualification. As head of security you will have the ability to cope with a dynamic and continuously improving organisation, champion and drive both internal and external change and to contribute to our ambition to continuously improve our safety and security culture and nuclear professionalism.

To put some numbers to those facts, we generate around one fifth of the nation’s electricity and employ some 15,000 people. What really sets us apart, however, is our fresh approach to the industry. Everything we do is underpinned by a clear customer focus and a drive towards sustainability. Because it’s these two factors, we believe, that will define theUK energy industry for generations to come.
