In a nutshell
The Head of Security is responsible for the overall management of the airline’s global security activities and is designated ‘Security Manager’ under our Security Management System (SeMS). The role will have responsibility for all aspects of threat assessment and security within the Company, providing senior executives with high-level threat assessment and security advice to ensure that operations are conducted in accordance with European Union, UKCAA and UK Department for Transport (DfT) requirements and those of the various host state countries, where Virgin Atlantic operates.

Day to day
Principal accountabilities will include, but are not limited to:
Ensure the Company has a forward view of emerging threats and security risks likely to impact business operations and personnel security.
Management and assessment of in-flight security threats and other security related emergency incidents.
Providing specialist security advice and threat briefings to CEO and the Senior Leadership Team.
Overseeing and performance management of the airline’s Security Programme.
Development of global high-level law enforcement, security and Intelligence service contacts.
Liaison with applicable regulating, law enforcement, security authorities and other established members of the Intelligence community.
Representing the Company at national and international security functions.
Conducting high-level overt and covert criminal investigations.
Conducting vetting and integrity checks as required.
Recommending equipment and technology to improve Virgin Atlantic’s security defences.
Chairing the Security Action Group (SecAG), the Company’s primary security committee, reporting directly into Virgin Atlantic’s Safety & Security Review Board.
Ensuring VAA’s SeMS remains fit for purpose.
Developing, maintaining and implementing the airline’s Security Programme, in accordance with all applicable legislation.


About you
We are looking for candidates who have extensive experience in Security, law enforcement, intelligence, or an aligned regulatory role. You will have wide-ranging, high level contacts in the law enforcement, regulatory, security and intelligence communities (globally). You’ll have great leadership skills and networking skills. You’ll need to be assertive, have the ability to prioritise and make reasoned judgements based on limited information and under high stress and time-limited situations.
