This is a key role within the British Red Cross, responsible for maintaining an effective security and safety framework in British Red Cross operations overseas. This is achieved through developing and maintaining policies and procedures to manage all aspects of security for UK based staff travelling overseas, staff based overseas and staff seconded to work in other Red Cross organisations. The post holder will provide advice, support and training to managers on country security management, programme risk management, travel risk management and critical incident management. This is a headquarters role, with travel of between 20% and 30% a year.

The successful candidate will have significant previous experience working with a humanitarian organisation or within the Red Cross Movement. He/she will have spent time working in the field and have managed security in that context. He/she will have up to date knowledge of current thinking and trends in security management in the humanitarian sector in UK and overseas and be able to apply that knowledge to continuous improvement of British Red Cross policy and procedures. He/she will have extensive experience of undertaking security assessments, developing country security plans, contingency plans and implementing security and safety procedures . He/she will have experience of making difficult judgements and giving advice on a wide range of security related matters including during critical incidents. Finally, the successful candidate will have excellent influencing skills, leading a strong security culture in the British Red Cross, which enables us to mitigate and manage risk in a way that allows us to remain present and effective.
