We are seeking a Principal Safety Consultant to join our growing Safety team within the Capability Assurance Business Unit. The Principal Consultant will have a substantial safety engineering background gained from service in the Royal Navy, British Army or Defence Equipment & Support in Maritime or Land Project Teams. Our team carry out Safety Engineering activities on behalf of national and some overseas clients from offices in Bristol, Leatherhead and Lincoln as well as onsite at clients’ premises. Our expert team of Consultants enable delivery of multiple exciting and complex safety critical programmes.

Key Responsibilities
Provision of safety consultancy services to internal or external customers; assuming project management responsibilities, ensuring technical delivery of projects to time, budget and client satisfaction
Derive safety requirements, regulation, policy and legislation requirements scoping and compliance
Safety management system development and planning
Hazard identification and analysis using recognised methodologies
ALARP assessment supported by Cost Benefit Analysis
Develop safety arguments, authoring, updating, reviewing and independent auditing of Safety Cases
Carry out qualitative and quantitative assessment of risk from normal and accident conditions
Integrate design data into safety case claims, arguments and evidence-based cases
Safety Integrity Level (SIL) derivation and assessment
Carry out nominated safety roles and participate in Safety Working Groups
Assume Bid Management responsibilities to include supporting the preparation of commercial and technical proposals
Promote Edif ERA Safety Management Services capability and contribute to business development efforts

Skills, Experience and Qualifications
Candidates should have substantial demonstrable experience of Maritime or Land Defence programmes, conducting a wide range of safety analysis of whole and sub-systems, holding positions that demanded a high level of professional conduct
A detailed knowledge of some or all of the following practises and standards is required
HAZOP/HAZAN, FTA/ETA/FMECA/Bow Tie Analysis, Deterministic Safety Assessment, domain specific regulation and policy, Independent Safety Audit
Def Stan 00-56, ASEMS, JSPs 375, 418, 454, 520, 815, MAA Regulatory Publications, Mil Std 882, DO 178, DO 254.
Professional Body Membership supporting experience of working to recognised Codes of Practice is advantageous
CEng or IEng status is preferred
An influential leader with strong technical leadership experience and encouraging mentoring skills
An engineering degree or post graduate qualification (or equivalent) is desirable, e.g.: MSc in Safety Critical Systems Engineering
Previous success in the identification and development of new business opportunities
Candidates must be willing to undertake the security vetting process and be Security Cleared at the point employment commences
