ROLE OVERVIEW

To provide management of the ‘on duty’ security team, consisting of Security Team Leaders and Security Officers, acting as the accountable and responsible person for the effective, efficient and compliant running of the security operation at East Midlands Airport (EMA) over 24 hours, (within a team of four Security Duty Managers) including the following operational areas: -

Terminal Security Operations
Airfield Security Operations
DHL Security Operations

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Plan to ensure that we meet service level agreements within all areas of responsibility whilst meeting all legislative and budgetary requirements.

Plan in advance for other Security Duty Managers to ensure that resource requirements are met before impact and that any operational issues are resolved to a satisfactory level once identified, developing business cases where relevant.

Responsible for the personal development and performance management of security staff to deliver brilliance as standard for the EMA security team.

Design, develop and deliver plans for improvement of security operations at EMA in collaboration with the Head of Security.

Deliver compliance audits, including covert/overt test programmes, in conjunction with the Quality & Assurance Officer and M.A.G. Security Assurance.

To be the lead in any Security related incidents ensuring that the contingency plans put in place are delivered effectively ensuring that all stakeholders are communicated with during the incident.

Ensure that service standards are in place and delivered for EMA, in conjunction with M.A.G, actively contributing to any M.A.G. guidelines document/s.

Monitor and measure the performance of the operational security function; including queue times (agreed SLAs), the throughput of passengers and the standards of customer service offered by security colleagues; measured through improvements in Airport Service Quality scores.

Audit and manage the appearance and functionality of security areas, to ensure they are tidy, well maintained and give a good impression, with the necessary equipment for operational efficiencies and compliance.

Deliver operational areas for improvement, with regard to; resource planning and rosters, security infrastructure, team skills and behaviours and service standards.

Ensure training and development needs for the security team are identified, implemented (with M.A.G. training) and recorded, including; safety, security, M.A.G. values and behaviours, customer service and are kept informed of what is developing across M.A.G.

Inspire commitment, motivation and improved performance by encouraging innovation, flexibility and a ‘why not?’ approach to different ways of doing things and by recognising ‘brilliant’ performance.

Manage and deliver the recruitment and selection of security staff, ensuring training is scheduled in preparation for peak periods.

Where any service level failure is identified ensure it is fully recorded and rectifications plans are put in place to ensure no repeat occurs.

Ensure effective resourcing of Immigration e-gates to maximise uptake and minimise queue times for arriving passengers.



POSITION REQUIREMENTS


Experience

Demonstrable experience of leading and managing a team in a legislated service delivery environment

Resource planning and performance monitoring experience

Skills

Leadership and people management skills

Customer Service skills with a passion for service quality ‘beyond expectations’

Ability to relate to and work with other departments collaboratively to develop mutually acceptable solutions and efficiencies

Communication to instil pride, enthusiasm and attention to detail

Commercial awareness of the airport industry and understand its impact on operational requirements and developments

Background Understanding/Technical Qualifications (desirable)

Relevant EU regulations (EC300)

Single Consolidated Direction (SCD)

NASP 2010

DfT Level 3 accreditation
