Minimum expected tour length

Successful candidates will be expected to serve a minimum of 2-years in the post. Persons transferring into other Non MGS posts, within this time frame will be required to repay the cost of uniform and training to a maximum of £1000.

Location
The permanent duty station will be Westdown Camp. You may, however be required to undertake detached duty at other sites within reasonable distance of your home should there be an operational need.

Job description

The Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO) has the responsibility for the management of property, infrastructure and related services to ensure strategic management of the Defence Estate as a whole, optimising investment and, critically supporting military capability to the best effect. The MGS is part of the Service delivery component to the DIO.

The Ministry of Defence Guard Service (MGS) provides unarmed guarding support to over 100 Defence establishments in England Wales and Scotland. The post advertised here will be based at Westdown Camp within Area 10. (Area 10 covers the following sites, Amport House, Tedworth House, Netheravon Airfield Camp, Westdown, Warminster, Shrivenham, Lyneham, Colrsham, Welford and Hermitage. Successful candidates that fail to secure a position will be held within a pool of surplus and may be offered an alternative within Area 10.)

The Civilian Security Officer is responsible for providing an overt unarmed security presence. He (she) will carry out all unarmed guarding duties to a high standard in accordance with current MOD, MGS and Unit/establishment orders.

The Key duties of an MGS Officer are as follows. Please note that these duties can vary from site to site.

• Customer Care
• Controlling vehicular and pedestrian access and exit to/from site
• Issuing of passes
• Issuing and receipt of keys
• Patrolling on foot and in a vehicle
• Searching of vehicles, baggage, personnel, buildings and open areas
• Escorting of visitors
• Controlling traffic
• Checking identity
• Writing reports on breaches of security or defects
• Dealing with demonstrators and intruders
• Safeguarding classified information and material
• Cooperating with other security providers
• Liaising with emergency services and invoking emergency procedures
• Operating and monitoring security systems; CCTV and alarms etc
• Operating and communicating effectively over the telephone and/or radio
• Reporting safety hazards and accidents in accordance with current instructions
• Carrying out, if required, initial action at the scene of any incident
• Driving an MOD vehicle
• Other tasks commensurate with the grade
MGS applicants are required to attend a medical appointment to undertake a colour perception eye test. Arecent Optometrist Colour Vision Crtificate is acceptable instead of attendance at a medical however, an Opticians charge may be applicable.

Licences
Full Uk Driving Licence

Qualifications
2 GCSEs at Grade C or above, or equivalent, or NVQ Business Administration Level 1, or suitable Civil Service Experience.
IT Literate and competent in the use of Microsoft Office products in particular Outlook & Word.
