Job description/Person specification

QinetiQ are recruiting Security Officers to join their team in Portsmouth.

Purpose of Role:
• Supporting the Shift Leader/QGS Management in maintaining the integrity of security at Portsdown Tech Park (PTP) on a day to day basis.

• Assisting the Shift Leader/QGS Management in providing a first class operational security service at PTP in an efficient and cost effective manner.

Key Accountabilities:

The security officer (QSO) is responsible to the Shift leader for ensuring that Control of Entry and Egress duties are performed at defined locations at the site. QSO performing control of entry duties is to ensure that only authorised persons and vehicles are facilitated access to the site. No person is to be granted access without first producing a valid pass.

Identifying security weaknesses, breaches and contraventions and reporting them to the Shift Leader in a timely and accurate fashion.

Denying access to the site to those who appear to be under the influence of alcohol, and submitting a report to the Shift Leader immediately.

Dealing with all members of staff, visitors and contractors in a firm but polite manner.

Conducting vehicle searches at irregular intervals or as instructed by QGS Management the results are to be recorded on the appropriate pro-forma. Searches are to be carried out politely and professionally.

Monitoring CCTV, alarms and AACS in accordance with manufacturers and Site instructions in a diligent manner and where appropriate ensuring a quick response. All incidents are reported immediately to the Shift Leader/QGS Management

Ensuring that all manual and electronic records are kept up to date, with accurate and legible entries (inc pocket notebooks).

QSO’s performing key control duties are responsible for the issue, receipt and custody of keys. At the end of every shift they are to carry out a check of the registers to ensure all keys have been returned or that they are aware of their whereabouts. Missing keys are to be reported via the reporting procedure and buildings are checked immediately to verify building security.

Presenting QinetiQ and QGS in a positive and professional manner, and adhering to the QinetiQ and QGS values.

Maintaining an up to date knowledge of QinetiQ and HMG policies, plans, processes and local instructions and moreover ensuring that Staff, contractors and visitors abide by them.

Supporting the Shift Leader in maintaining a safe environment for QGS staff to operate within.

Supports the Shift Leader to maintain a proactive health & Safety culture and in full compliance of the Site Health & Safety Policy Document and the HASAW Act 1974.


Additional Control Room Duties (where applicable)
• Monitoring and responding to Close Circuit Television (CCTV) Equipment.

• Monitoring and responding to Intruder Detector Systems (IDS).

• Monitoring and responding to Fire Alarm Systems.

• Monitoring and responding to Access Control Systems (ACS).

• Use of emergency telephone and telephone exchange in ‘silent’ hours

Please note shift work is a requirement of this role.
