The Role
The Field Security Officer will support the Country Security Advisor to strengthen Oxfam’s security management systems by providing security management support and guidance to country and field offices and building security management capacity in the South Sudan team. Main responsibilities of the role include:


Supporting the Country Security Advisor with ongoing analysis of the context and developments in relation to the security situation in South Sudan and supporting management and programme teams to make security decisions.


Under the direction of the Country Security Advisor, undertake regular and ad hoc security assessment missions as necessary, in order to gather information and to analyse the overall security situation in existing and potential areas of intervention.


Maintaining close contacts with all relevant stakeholders to develop a network and build relationships with key actors to ensure gathering of reliable security information.


Assist the Country Security Advisor to develop and maintain SOP’s for each programme location.


Maintain an incident reporting system and a database of incidents; focal point for daily security event and incident reporting


Provide training and briefings to staff to ensure that staff have the security skills and awareness that they need to be effective.


In the absence of the Country Security Advisor, provide representation on behalf of Oxfam in external meetings and forums, as may be required

About You
You will have considerable practical experience of security assessment, planning and implementation of procedures in the context of UN or NGO humanitarian operations. You will have excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to influence and negotiatewith internal and external audiences including in complex and stressful circumstances.

You will have experience in training and capacity building of staff and the ability to advise and support field staff in a consultative manner. The ability to work under pressure in a demanding environment, and a good understanding of, and experience in, fast-paced and difficult contexts will be essential for this role.



Due to the programme and country context complexity, a solid working experience in South Sudan will be a strong advantage.



Duty station: The position is based in Juba with frequent travel to programme locations

Remuneration: Salary circa GBP £26,500 net per annum, plus competitive benefits package including per diem, medical cover, leave and the provision of tax, pension and social insurance contributions
