The British Bilateral Embassy in Belgium is part of a world-wide network, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas.

The UK Department for International Trade (DIT), part of the British Embassy Brussels represents British trade interests overseas. The DIT team is looking for a Senior Trade Officer focusing on the Security and Defence sector.

Increasing British exports is a top priority for the British Government, so this is a high profile role and represents an excellent opportunity for a dynamic and creative professional with relevant business experience.

To lead DIT’s Benelux defence and security trade campaign, the job holder will be required to develop a network of senior contacts in British companies searching for business with NATO and in the Belgian defence and security world. As part of a small experienced team, the main objective will be to increase and promote UK trade to the NATO family and to Belgium and Luxembourg by actively identifying business opportunities and working with partners to deliver a range of high quality business support services.



Main Duties / Responsibilities
Development and delivery of the UKTI Security and Defence campaign in Belgium, Luxembourg and NATO;
Assist UK companies to capitalise on major commercial opportunities in NATO and in Belgium, providing professional advice and supporting UK companies that wish to develop business;
Account manage major British companies with interests in NATO and also present on the Belgian market;
Build and manage a network of stakeholders and partners in Belgium, as well as in the UK;
Organise targeted outcome oriented events in support of UK exports including webinars, trade fairs and exhibitions, either independently or in close cooperation with partners;
Contribute to the wider economic diplomacy priorities of the British Embassy;
Manage 1 DIT team member, working remotely.
Essential qualifications and experience

A good knowledge of the defence and/or security sector and of its procurement processes;
Excellent organisational skills, focusing on presentation, drafting and networking skills required by working as part of a virtual team;
Flexibility, pro-active and entrepreneurial attitude;
Excellent people-oriented skills;
Effective time management: ability to handle multiple priorities and meet agreed deadlines;
Strong account management experience and proven ability in building excellent customer relation skills;
Ability to deal with customers at the most senior levels of decision making;
Fluent written and spoken English;
Knowledge of French and Dutch at Business level;
Good IT skills (Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook);
Flexibility for occasional out of hours work and travel to the UK.
Desirable qualifications and experience

Knowledge of NATO, Belgian and UK business scenes, preferably in the security and defence sectors;
Experience of business development in international context.
