Newcastle University Estate Support Service are seeking to recruit an Assistant Security Manager due to the retirement of the previous post holder. This challenging role will suit a professional and confident individual who can thrive in a busy, customer focused, environment working with diverse groups of people across a large, city centre, campus. Reporting to the Security Manager, you will be a senior member of the Security Management team providing a 24/7 security service to the University.

You will be a proven manager with an excellent customer service ethic and be able to lead a team of professional security operatives. The ability to manage at both operational and strategic level is essential as is the ability to manage emergent situations. You will have evidenced administrative skills and be proficient in the use of HR policies and procedures. You may be required to represent the service at a number of different forums both internally and externally. You will also take the lead in effective implementation and co-ordination of University policies, codes of practices and procedures, while promoting security projects and initiatives to assist in the prevention of crime and ensure a safe/secure environment to all staff, students, contractors and visitors to the University.

Successful candidates must hold, or be prepared to achieve, a level 6 in a Management discipline. Candidates must also be literate and numerate and have good IT skills (Microsoft package, bespoke security software) as well as holding a full (manual) UK driving licence. A valid SIA Door Supervisors licence (front line or non-front line) is required for the role however training will be given to those who don’t currently hold a licence, which MUST be completed during your probation period. Familiarity with control room operations including the operation and monitoring of security systems would be advantageous. Candidates will also be required to have good communication and organisational skills.

Flexibility is essential to this role to ensure managerial coverage over a 24/7/365 period.
