TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

As the security coordinator guarantees the security support to the field, the pertinence and coherence of security activities. Based in Nairobi, the majority of your activity will be dedicated to the management of security in Somalia and Kenya with frequent visit to Puntland. You will also be involved in the management of the security in DRC, Tanzania and Ethiopia, with potential visits according to the needs. You collaborate with all coordination team, train the team on security matters and check on the application of policies and use of the most appropriate security techniques, tools and equipment to cover operations’ needs.

Your main strategic aim will be to promote a better understanding of the context and effectiveness of security measures undertaken through a participatory approach with the field teams as well as HQ.

You will ensure the following tasks:
1/ Security
In close collaboration with the Gen Co, design and apply the security plan and procedures for Kenya AND Somalia (Puntland), update security documents of the mission security pack
Assist and advice the Gen Co in defining security management tools for the mission, in collaboration with the local teams and issues alerts and recommendations to the Gen Co about possible changes regarding risks and measures to be implemented.
Analyse security context and compile reliable information on MdM’s intervention areas and disseminate the information through defined channels
Maintain adequate vigilance of the context evolution and refer to the General Coordinator in case of problem.
Coordinate with security networks INSO, NSP and others network
Ensure that current material and human resources are adapted to the highest security level for teams in the field.
Ensure that staff members (international and national) are familiar with and understand the rules and monitors revisions and ensure new staff’s security briefing
Ensure that security standards are put in place and respected
Communicate on a regular basis with the field security focal points on risks, incidents and attitudes to be observed by the teams and organised meetings and trainings as necessary.
Contribute to all internal and external reporting regarding security
Develop and implements specific training on security management for the teams.
Participate to regional security coordination meetings
2/ Team management
Collaborate closely with other coordinators and contribute to coordination meetings
Build the capacities of the team, supports their positioning and their appropriation of security skills and tools
Facilitate the communication of the security component within the team

Contract : Fixed term contract

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE NEEDED
You have a degree or strong technical background in security
You have a strong experience in coordinating security in difficult and unsecure contexts abroad is essential
You are experienced in team management and capacity building is important, in negotiations and relations with local partners, providers and authorities in a difficult legal, administrative and political context (very important)
You have a field experience under potentially hazardous safety conditions
You are able to take initiative and remain proactive in a complex work environment
You are autonomous in performing your tasks
You manage priorities and develop a comprehensive approach
You have excellent organisational skills and good management and communication skills
Language

English: fluent

French: working proficiency
