About the role
Safeguarding our business, our people, and our customers’ mail is central to Royal Mail Security.

We’re recruiting 12 new Assistants in Security, individuals with a sharp eye, a flexible approach and resilience and determination. You will help ensure that Royal Mail Security continues to support the business in achieving excellent customer service and ensuring our customers know their mail is in safe hands.

Successful applicants will have the opportunity to develop skills in two key specialisms of Investigations and Risk Management during your career as an Assistant Investigation/Security Manager.

As an Assistant Investigation Manager, it’ll be down to you to investigate unexplained loss and suspected crime impacting the Royal Mail Group. To do so, you’ll complete assigned investigation tasks including analysing loss and crime information, and conducting timely investigations in accordance with the relevant legislation and business rules. We’ll also look to you to:

Conduct surveillance under direction
Assist in the apprehension of offenders
Maximise recoveries of mail, cash and property from offenders
Interview witnesses and record their statements
Support the prosecution of offenders and give evidence in Court if necessary

As an Assistant Security Manager, it’ll be down to you to engage and influence stakeholders through meetings and briefings to encourage adherence to standard operating procedures or take remedial action to reduce risk.  To do so, you’ll need to acquire and apply a working knowledge of mail integrity standards and work with others in the business – both inside and outside Security. We’ll also look to you to:

Provide direct support through compliance sampling throughout the mails pipeline
Ensure the on-going security of mail, personnel, assets and information
Deliver security communications to frontline
Conduct regular checks/inspections to ensure compliance to standards
Respond to reports of missing/lost/stolen items and external crime

You’ll play a key role in helping to reduce crime across the Royal Mail Group as you work with the team to prevent recurrence and minimise the impact of future similar offences.

Flexibility is vital as you may be required to work variable hours to meet the needs of the Royal Mail Group’s 24-hour a day and 7-days a week operation. This flexibility goes both ways and you will be expected to set your hours according to your workload.

In your application, please state whether you would prefer to begin your career with us as an Assistant Investigation or Assistant Security Manager.

About you
Along with your strong judgement and decision-making skills, you’ll need effective communication skills and the ability to work well with a team. Although you’ll largely take direction from your manager, you will be expected to contribute ideas and suggestions - therefore, we’ll need you to be a self-starter who’s able to work on their own initiative. Resilience and determination to succeed are essential to success in this role, so you’ll need to be able to demonstrate past experience of how you’ve worked through problems to achieve results. Attention to detail and great organisation skills are also key.
