Explosive Detection Dog (EDD) / K--9 Handler

Location:Kabul Afghanistan
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Detect explosive materials and devices
• Prevent the unauthorized introduction of explosive devices or matter

• Maintain K-9 training records to meet contract requirements
• Perform other functions as directed by the Government

• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a team environment
• Ability and willingness to work in hostile and conflict environment
• Exercise sound judgment in all areas of responsibility
• Ability to maintain effective communications with individuals and agencies from diverse cultures and backgrounds including U.S. Government, host nation government and law enforcement
• Maintain effective professional relationships with employees and outside individuals and agencies
• Ability to understand and successfully handle various operational issues

Minimum Qualifications:
• Certified in accordance with North American Police Work Dog Association (NAPWDA), national/State/provincial military or law enforcement agency standards as a working K-9 Handler.
• A minimum of:
o Two years of service as a Military or Law Enforcement K9 Handler
o One (1) additional year of security-related experience
• Experience can be gained in the employ of any national, State/Provincial, Local or commercial entities providing high threat protective services
• Able to recognize K-9 diseases, be familiar with hygiene requirements, and know the physical condition of the K-9
• All K9 Handlers will have completed a minimum 3 hours block of instruction to include:
o Recognition of IED's and explosives materials - This block will be both generic and specific to their country of assignment.
o Safe explosive handling/ Explosives storage protocols/ Explosives transportation protocols
o Training in protocols to preclude cross contamination of explosive odors used in training and testing
o Testing procedures as required by WPPS Phase 1 and Phase 2 Testing
o Phase 1 Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms Odor Recognition Test (NORT)
o Phase 2 North American Police Work Dog Association (NAPWDA) certification test

Upon hiring the EDD will be required to:
• Attend the non-PSS Training Course
• Obtain and maintain qualification with Glock 19 and M4
